HAMILTON
FINISHES 20TH IN RAIN DELAYED CALIFORNIA RACE
Nearly 48 hours after the scheduled start of the Stater Bros. 300
NASCAR Nationwide Series race, the green flag finally dropped. Heavy
rains in Southern California placed the teams and drivers into a
very tough situation by sending the race from Saturday to Monday.
With only one hour of practice, the teams were finally able to start
the race Monday afternoon, immediately following the rain-delayed
500 mile Cup race.
To no ones surprise, the Cup drivers used the track time advantage
to their favor to complete a sweep of the top nine finishing positions.
Curly’s BBQ driver Bobby Hamilton finished 20th after racing
as high as 12th earlier in the race. Hamilton gave his best effort
throughout the 300 mile event.
“This has been a tough weekend, we had hoped to be closer
to the top-ten today, but our car wasn’t strong enough down
the straightaways. The power of the Toyotas on a track like this
is incredible. I wanted to give the Curly’s BBQ Ford a better
run today in their NASCAR debut. They will be back with us Saturday
in Las Vegas, and we had a super test there three weeks ago.”
Hamilton now stands in 14th place in the season long point’s
championship race.
Tony Stewart beat Kyle Busch to the checkered flag to win his second
straight Nationwide Series race. After a 30 hour stay back home
in North Carolina, Team Rensi Motorsports will head back out west
for The Las Vegas Motor Speedway and a 300 mile event on Saturday
afternoon. Check your local listings for ESPN broadcast times in
your area.
